Tanya Woo is a fifth-generation Seattle native and lifelong advocate for inclusive community-building. Raised in her family’s bakery in the Chinatown-International District, Tanya learned early the values of hard work, cultural heritage, and collective resilience. Her personal and professional journey reflects a rare blend of entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering public service.

Tanya has worn many hats: small business owner, historic preservationist, nonprofit leader, and Seattle City Councilmember. She led the transformation of the Louisa Hotel after a devastating fire, preserving its cultural legacy while creating affordable housing. Tanya also co-founded a community watch group to provide mutual aid and enhance safety without relying solely on policing.

In 2024, she served on the Seattle City Council, championing pragmatic and people-first policies. Her approach—rooted in empathy, listening, and direct action—earned her respect across political and community lines.

Off the clock, Tanya enjoys volunteering, performing Chinese cultural dances, and advocating for environmental and artistic causes. Her guiding belief? “Advocacy is love in action.”
